Behind the Scenes

My Art Process

Making a painting is slow work, and I mean that as the highest possible praise. The slowness is where the painting lives. Here is what that looks like, from the first mark to the last.

It Begins Outside

Each piece begins with a pre-stretched canvas, carefully chosen as the foundation for an original work of art. I build each composition through layers of acrylic paint, allowing depth, movement, and color to develop gradually throughout the process.

The Underpainting

To bring a tactile, dimensional quality to my work, I incorporate modeling paste to create organic textures and a three-dimensional surface that invites the viewer to experience the artwork beyond the canvas. Every layer is intentionally added to capture the beauty, stillness, and intricate details found in the natural world.

Building Color

My canvases are finished in a gallery wrap style, allowing the artwork to continue seamlessly around the edges. This creates a polished, contemporary presentation that allows each piece to be displayed beautifully without the need for a frame.
